Almost one year after his last performance in Aveiro, the Japanese audiovisual artist Tatsuru Arai is back to the Aveiro Arts House. The artist will present his audiovisual performance “Matters-ton”, a fine blend of noise electronics and full-on visuals.

The oracle foresees a contribution of 4€ to reward the international artist, and we’ll be here as usually, lusting after your company. There are only 42 seats available, so please drop us a line if you wish to make a reservation.

Tatsuru Arai is a composer and sound-graphic programmer based in Berlin, Germany. He graduated from the Tokyo College of Music and continued his studies at the Hanns Eisler School of Music in Berlin. Focusing largely on the relationship between music and visuals, Tatsuru Arai experiments in the field of new media using progressive video technologies.

His music art aims to present the fundamental physical nature of the universe in the form of perceptional experiences. Having found the aesthetics of “geometric structure” in historical musical works, he believes that the human perception of sound —a physical phenomenon— influences human beings, and that the “geometric structure” is a fundamental pillar that allows us to understand the true nature of the universe.

Creating a way to experience even a single part of the universe’s nature through sound is my idea of the ultimate artistic work.

According to Arai, through the advance of science and physics, we will have better understanding of human perception and cognition. By the evolution of computer technology, we are developing Artificial Intelligence and algorithms for synthesis of music that are going to overtake human capacity in the near future. This will eventually lead us from today’s traditional composer to the future “über-composer” that is really a collaboration between Human Intelligence and Artificial Intelligence.

Now we are in the age of transition from the traditional composer to the “über-composer”.

Since 2016, Tatsuru Arai has been composing what he calls “Hyper Serial Music”, which will add innovation to the principle of Serialism three-point: “structural”, “complex” and “noisy”. Hyper-Serial-Music is the algorithm music generated by state-of-the-art technology such as Artificial Intelligence instead of native human intelligence alone.
